Fujiyoshida
Fujiyoshida is one of the most popular places to stay in the Fuji Five Lakes area, thanks to the easy access for tourists to and from the train lines from Tokyo.
From Tokyo Station, Fujiyoshida can be reached in a little over two hours by train using a combination of JR and locally operated train lines. This means that tourists can easily and viably get to Fujiyoshida from Tokyo and explore this beautiful part of Japan.
Staying in Fujiyoshida means that you can viably travel to and from Tokyo, enabling you to explore the Fuji Five Lakes with relative comfort and a lower time pressure than those just doing a day trip.
Kawaguchiko
Kawaguchiko is also one of the most popular places to stay in the Fuji Five Lakes Area. Built around Lake Kawaguchi – one of the five fuji lakes -, this city offers stunning views of Mount Fuji, and a wide variety of fun things to do.
Lake Kawaguchi is the only of the five lakes where motorised boats are permitted, so there is an abundance of water skiing, lake tours, and fishing tours available on Lake Kawaguchi.
Accessing the Fuji Five Lakes
By Public Transport
Getting to the Fuji Five Lakes area can easily be done via Public Transport. From Tokyo Station, you can access Fujiyoshida town by taking the Chuo Line to JR Otsuki Station, and then transferring onto the Fujikyuko Line (not operated by JR).
Overall, the journey can take over two hours to complete, and costing around 4,000JPY one way, though most of this cost can be covered by the JR Pass for the JR section of the Journey. The journey from Otsuki Station to Fujisan Station will costs about 1,040JPY one way and this is not covered by the JR Pass.
Getting around the Fuji Five Lakes, there are a number of tourist bus lines which depart from Kawaguchiko Bus station, and visit the five lakes, and the tourist sites in between.
By Car
A rental car or other private car is a freeing way to explore the Fuji Five Lakes. Many of the five lakes have free carparking around the lake, and driving allows you to get to many of this regions hottest destinations quickly and on your own schedule.
From Tokyo, It will take about an hour and a half to two hours to reach the Fuji Five Lakes area.
