Hikawa Shrine – Saitama

Hikawa Shrine in Saitama prefecture

Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Jinja, often shortened to Hikawa Shrine, is an important shrine located in Omiya, Saitama Prefecture. Hikawa Shrine is a hidden gem that is often overlooked by tourists visiting the country.

There are a number of buildings to see at Hikawa Shrine, including the Honden (main hall), the Haiden (the prayer hall) the Maiden (the dance stage), and the library.

For most of the year, the shrine is a tranquil place to visit. However, come New Years, locals flock to Hikawa Shrine.

One of the first things you’ll notice upon entering the shrine grounds is the large torii gate at the entrance. The gate is made of wood and painted in bright red, making it a striking contrast to the lush green surroundings. As you walk through the gate, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful garden with a pond, a waterfall, and a small stream. The garden is a great place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the shrine.

The main shrine building is a traditional Japanese-style structure made of wood and adorned with intricate carvings. Inside the main hall, you’ll find the statue of Suijin-sama, the god of water. It’s a peaceful and serene place, perfect for offering prayers and making wishes.
