Hitachi Seaside Park

Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture

The Hitachi Seaside Park is a private park located along the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture near the city of Mito. Known for its expansive seasonal flower displays, the park covers approximately 190 hectares and features a mix of natural and landscaped areas, offering breathtaking views year-round. In addition, the park offers plenty of options for fun and exploration.

The Hitachi Seaside Park was once a US Military airport and testing range for weapons and explosives, but due to some complications regarding the explosives and accidents caused by them, the locals sought action for the military base to be decommissioned in the early 1970’s, and later turned into the Hitachi Seaside Park, attracting tourists from all over Japan.

The park has many great features, from playground areas, a 36-hole miniature golf course, a small wadding pool to cool off in summer, and a Ferris wheel among many more things. The Hitachi Seaside Park also has an extensive bicycle path throughout the park, and rental bike locations dotted around to help you navigate this expansive park. Across the park, you will also find a range of restaurants and cafes.

The parks expansive grounds create a unique park experience that sees thousands of people visiting per day – particularly in late spring, when the park’s iconic; the Blue Nemophila, begins to bloom, which can best be observed from the Hill of Miharashi found near the center of the park.

Autumn also offers a wide array of vibrant colours that are certainly worth the while to visit the Hitachi Seaside Park. While the main attraction to the park is the Blue Nemophilas, there are still year round flowers that can be found across the park, meaning you have something to enjoy, whenever you visit.
