The Five-story pavilion of Hokan-ji temple is a icon of Kyoto, residing between Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizudera Temple. The rich red color of the pagoda’s exterior is simply stunning, and it looks particularly striking against the bright blue sky on a clear day.

Thanks to the historic homes and buildings that line the nearby streets, walking to Hokan-ji temple can feel like you are steeping back through time. When the streets are quiet at night, the Hokan-ji Temple Pagoda makes for a stunning background in among the historic streets of Kyoto. The pagoda of Hokan-ji temple dates back to the 6th century, where it was first constructed at the Kyoto Imperial Palace, which then later moved to it’s current location

One highlight of the pagoda is the ability to climb up a few floors of the pagoda, which provides you with a unique view of the surrounding Higashiyama area, and is a pleasant treat on your visit to the area.
