Ikeda Castle Ruins

Ikeda Castle ruins park on a clear blue day

The Ikeda Castle Ruins are a hill-top reconstruction of a small castle built in 1334 by the Ikeda Clan. Over several years, the castle served as a fortification for the clan, but was eventually seized in the 16th century, and then later abandoned a few years later. The current structure was built in 1999, after the land was gifted to the city of Ikeda.

Like many castles of its time, Ikeda Castle followed a standard layout with features such as moats, walls, gates, and watchtowers. It was designed to provide both a defensive stronghold and a residential space for the lord and his retainers.

The Ikeda Castle Ruins Park site has been designated as a historic spot by the Osaka Prefectural Government and is maintained as a park for visitors to explore and learn about its history, and enjoy the beautifully maintained gardens completely for free. There is a small vending machine to purchase koi food for 100 yen! But that’s an optional – but worthwhile – experience.

Ikeda City is known for its historical significance and is also home to other attractions like the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum and Satsukiyama Park, which offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes.

Ikeda Castle is commonly visited alongside the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum, found in the nearby area.
