Korankei Valley

Korankei Valley in Aichi Prefecture is a famous autumn destination.

The Korankei Valley is a small valley to the north-east of Nagoya City. Korankei Valley is particularly well-known for its stunning autumn colors. The valley is adorned with approximately 4,000 maple trees that burst into vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow during the fall season, attracting numerous visitors seeking to enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves.

In the 17th century, the head priest of Kojaku-ji Temple, found on the nearby Mt. Iimori, planted some maple trees in and around the river and temple vicinity, encouraging those living in the valley at the time to do the same. This has resulted in tourists to this area being able to enjoy the changing of the seasons in this peaceful rural community.  While exploring the valley, feel free to explore Kojaku-ji temple and Mt.Iimori as well.

The area also features a vermillion wooden bridge called “Taigetsukyo bridge” spanning the Tomoe River, adding to the scenic charm of the place, and allowing those visiting to cross between the river and Mt.Iimori easily.

One of the best times to visit Korankei is usually in November when the autumn foliage is at its peak. During this time, festival stalls line the pathway to the Taigetsukyo bridge, and the paths are lit up a nightly illumination.

During Autumn, this small rural village is turned into a bustling community as people flock from all over to the Korankei Valley. It is recommended that you arrive easy on in the day, so that you can enjoy the peaceful nature of the valley, without the crowds.

Aside from the beautiful fall foliage, you can also enjoy the Sanshu Asukeyashiki Village, where you can find many old houses set up to recreate a historic village. At Sanshu Asukeyashiki village, you can even try your hand attending some of their workshops, and creating some local handicrafts.
