Lake Saiko

Lake Saiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes

Lake Saiko, also known as Saiko Lake, is one of the Fuji Five Lakes located near Mount Fuji in Japan. It is situated in the town of Fujikawaguchiko in Yamanashi Prefecture. The lake has an area of around 2.1 square kilometers (0.8 square miles), and a maximum depth of about 71.7 meters (235 feet), making it one of the deepest lakes in the region.

Like the other Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Saiko was formed by lava flows from Mount Fuji’s volcanic activity. It was originally connected to Lake Shoji and Lake Motosu, but separation occurred due to subsequent volcanic events and lava flows. It is believed that, while no longer connected above ground, that there is a series of underwater channels that still connect the lakes to this day.

The lake is surrounded by dense forests, providing a rich habitat for various species of plants and animals. It is known for fishing, particularly for species like rainbow trout and black bass. Furthermore, much like the other Fuji Five Lakes, the lake offers scenic views of Mount Fuji, especially in clear weather.

Nearby Lake Saiko, you can find several caves that have formed as a result of previous eruptions of Mount Fuji. The Ice, Wind and Bat caves have been converted into tourist destinations and are an exciting way to see and explore what attractions this beautiful area of Japan offers.

Accessing Lake Saiko

Lake Saiko can be accessed via the Omni Bus Green Line, which connects Kawaguchiko Station to the Lake. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes to reach the lake and costs 610 JPY. The bus usually operates every 1-2 hours throughout the day. The Omni bus lines are considered one of the easiest ways to explore the Fuji Five Lakes by Public Transport.

There are also plenty of parking spaces available around the lake for those coming in a rental car or other private car.
