Motonosumi Inari Shrine is a Shinto shrine with a spectacular view along the Yamaguchi Coast line. The 123 Torii gates found at Motonosumi Inari shrine line the path that scales the cliffside, with one side of you overlooking. This is a popular sightseeing destination for locals and those who have access to a car.
The shrine dates back to 1955, when it was constructed by a local fisherman, who saw a white fox at his bedside, and saw that as a calling to create this shrine.
At Motonosumi Inari Shrine, you start your shrine journey at the bottom, and walk up the path up the cliffside. At the top, you will be greeted by a large torii gate with silhouettes of white foxes across the top. There is the shrines offering box fixed near the top of the Torii gate, about 4 meters high, and it is said that those who can successfully throw a coin into the the offering box, you will be blessed with good luck.
Motonosumi Inari shrine is only accessible by car, and is a 30 minute drive from the nearest city, Nagato.
There is no public transport nearby, with the closest station, Nagato-Furuchi Station being a 8km drive. You can hire a taxi from Nagato-Furuchi Station when they are open, but it will cost approximately 2500JPY one way, plus any charges that may incur while the taxi waits for you.
