Mount Sarakura in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture

Mount Sarakura, also known as Sarakurayama, is a prominent mountain located in the city of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The mountain is famous in Kitakyushu for the stunning views of the city which can be seen from the Sarakura Observation deck, and is arguably one of the best views of the city, often a popular romantic destination for locals. 

The mountain stands at an elevation of approximately 622 meters (2,041 feet) above sea level. While not extremely high compared to some of Japan’s other mountains, it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Mount Sarakura is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. There are well-maintained hiking trails that lead to the summit, making it a relatively accessible mountain to climb. Along the way, hikers can enjoy lush forests, beautiful flora, and scenic vistas of the city and the Seto Inland Sea.

For those who prefer not to hike to the summit, there is a cable car that can take visitors to the top of Mount Sarakura. The cable car ride itself offers stunning views of the surroundings and is a convenient way to reach the summit.

Accessing Mount Sarakura

The best way to access Mount Sarakura is via the Sarakurayama Cable Car. The base of the cablecar is about a 25 minute walk from the nearest train station, Yahata Station. You can also take a taxi, which will take about 5 minutes and typically cost around 1000JPY.
