Narita International Airport

Japan Airline planes at Narita International Airport

Narita International Airport (NRT) is located in Chiba Prefecture, in the city of Narita. When it first opened, it was known as New Tokyo International Airport, but has since changed to Narita International Airport. NRT is now a major international airport in Japan that services flights from over 85 international and regional airlines.

Nartia International Airport was original designed to replace Haneda Airport, as Haneda was built in an area that was experiencing rapid development in the 1950s and 60s. However, the need for an additional airport was realised, and now both airport service international and domestic flights, giving travellers plenty of access to and from Tokyo.

Narita International Airport is not as busy as Haneda Airport in terms of passenger flow or flights, which makes getting through immigration and baggage collection a much easier process.

One thing to note that while Airlines list Narita International Airport as “Tokyo”, the Airport is quite a distance out from Tokyo, and is actually in a whole other prefecture.

Notable Airlines that fly into Narita International Airport are: Air Canada, Air France, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, KLM, Korean Air, United, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, United, Korean Airways, Etihad Airways, Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways and many more from all parts of the world.

Plane spotting at Narita International Airport couldn’t be easier, as there is an open-air rooftop observation deck at Terminal 1, looking over some of the gates and runway 16R/34L.

Getting from Narita International Airport to Tokyo is pretty simple, and there is a wide variety of transport options. Read now…
