The Sarufutsu Esanuka-sen, or Sarufutsu Esanuka Line, is a 16km flat and straight section of road in North Hokkaido. This isolated an remote destination if often frequented by those travelling to/from Wakkanai. While this stretch of road at first seems unassuming, the is known for the popular of Ezo Deer, and other wildlife, which can be seen grazing in the fields either side of the road.

Accessing the Sarufutu Esanuka-Sen

Sarufutu Esanuka-Sen is located just outside of the town of Hamatombetsu, along Hokkaido’s North eastern-coast. The road is about a 45 minute drive from Cape Soya, and can not be accessed by Public Transport. A rental/private car will be required to access this location.
