This lively market operates from the early hours of the morning, and most vendors are packed up by 4:30pm. If you happen to be in Kyoto on the 21st of the month, then the Toji Temple markets are a must see. A smaller market also operates here on the first Sunday of the month, with most of the items being antiques.

Accessing Toji Temple
Toji temple is a convenient 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station.
Alternatively, to cut this travel time in half, you can take a train from Kyoto Station, on the Kintestu-Kyoto line, for 1 stop to Toji Station. This will cost 160JPY one way, but it will bring your travel time from Kyoto station from 15-minutes of walking, to 1 minute of train, and 6 minutes of walking.
