Tsūtenkaku (通天閣) is a well-known landmark in Osaka, located in the Shinsekai district. The tower, whose name means “Tower Reaching Heaven,” stands 103 meters tall and offers visitors an observation deck with views over the city. Originally constructed in 1912, the first Tsūtenkaku was inspired by the Eiffel Tower but was dismantled during World War II. The current structure was rebuilt in 1956 and has since become a symbol of the area.
The Tower has a maximum height of 103 meters, with the main viewing platform at about 90 meters, meters provides a panoramic view of Osaka. A special open-air deck at 94.5 meters offers an even higher vantage point for an additional fee. At night, Tsūtenkaku is illuminated with changing LED lights, often displaying seasonal themes and weather forecasts. The Tsutenkaku Tower also has a 60 meter long slide which can be ridden for an addition fee of 1000JPY.
For your convenience, we recommend pre-purchasing tickets to for the Tsutenkaku Observation deck in advance.

Surrounding the tower, Shinsekai (新世界) meaning “New World” is a retro neighborhood known for its nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere, vibrant neon signs, and local street food such as kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers). However, Shinsekai has historically had a reputation of being a little bit seedier and sketchier – particularly for Japan’s high standards of safety. While the area today has much improved, there are still bars and areas of Shinsekai which are less than desirable to visit. Caution is advised when visiting bars in this area, and we recommend that you never follow anyone into any establishments.
